Steam Locomotive Ten-Wheeler

Originally from the United States, the locomotive known as the Ten-Wheeler (4-6-0) has 10 wheels on the engine and 8 on the tender (the car that carries water and firewood). This model was one of the most widely used in Brazil during the first half of the 20th century, forming part of the traction fleet of the Vitória a Minas Railway (EFVM), before the establishment of the Companhia Vale do Rio Doce.

The Ten-Wheeler arrived in Pires do Rio thanks to the keen eye of Professor Jacy Siqueira, founder of the Railway Museum. Abandoned in the Senador Canedo rail yard, the locomotive was rescued and towed to the museum, becoming part of the collection and enriching the region’s railway memory.
